In comparing the Old Testament covenant of law with the New Testament covenant of grace we conclude that the eternal New Testament covenant of grace through our Lord Jesus Christ far exceeds and excels and now supersedes the temporal covenant of law which God Himself gave to the nation of Israel.

By His once-for-all sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ now fulfills both the office of a king and the office of the high priest to the extent that He has disannulled the efficacy of the sacrifices brought by the Levitical priesthood. The eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ, which is after the order of Melchisedec has done away with the temporal Levitical priesthood, which was after the order of Aaron.

The born-again believer is not only saved from the penalty of sin but also from the practice of sin. The indwelling Holy Spirit works in the believer to conform him to the sinless and holy image of Jesus Christ. The Christian’s duty in this process of sanctification is to eschew temptation and not yield to sin. Jesus’ duty in our sanctification is to intercede on our behalf before the Father in the event we do yield to sin.

The veil in the Tabernacle in the wilderness pictures the Lord Jesus Christ. As the high priest could not go past the veil and enter into the most holy place without the blood of a sacrifice, so no man today can enter into the most holy place in heaven, that is, enter into the presence of God, except through faith in Jesus Christ.
